Was i wrong in this situation?

I bought a new car but due to the fact that i get paid in cash ( im a night club bouncer) I Lied and said i worked at my girlfriends company..fast forward two weeks and my girl gets a call at work, It was the finance company trying to verify my employment... She was caught of guard and is pissed at me ... I apologized... The thing is i was going to tell her but...... when i was about to tell her the day i bought the range rover she cut me off.. And honesty i forgot to bring it up again.... now she wants to talk... my immediate thought is she wants to break up...im mad at myself for forgetting to tell her about what i did.. i dont want the relationship to end.. I love her too much...Was i really that wrong
