How is an enzymes 3D structure stabilized?

the tertiary (3D) structure of a protein is determined by its primary structure (linear amino acid sequence). it is stabilized by noncovalent bonds, particularly hydrophobic interactions. for instance, in an aqueous environment, hydrophobic amino acid residues will tend to face inward. hydrophilic residues will face outward.
