Why do Joey porters comments on michael vicks plight gain more attention than our gov's ineptitude.?

In a time when the average american has trouble making ends meet from one month to the next, why would anyone care what Joey porter thinks? it seems to me we as a people should be far more concerned with the inability of our elected officials to do anything to help us (the tax paying american citizen) have a fair chance to enhance our lives, i.e. have a decent paying job or get decent affordable health care, or get a decent retirement payment after working a lifetime to line someone Else's pockets. get real people. These pro athletes , rock stars, poor little rich kids and other public figures are the perfect example of what is wrong with this country. We really need to get it together before it is too late, n there is nothing to get together.
