My father has british citizenship , but not me?

Iam currently on an american pport , but at the time my father had indefinite remain within the UK , but 2 years later he got a british pport by naturalisation which was in 1996, I was born in 1994 and I could possibly be Selected to represent great britain in 2012 , but an investigation has been called at the moment , but right know I just want to know as my parents never married , but I have been living within the country for 2 yeindefinite 16 holding indefinate remain within the uk , but fingers crossed !!!!!!!
